To make things tougher for Microsoft’s Xbox One S, Sony unveiled its PlayStation 4 (PS4) Pro at its PlayStation meeting. The new game console expands the existing PlayStation ecosystem and brings 4K gaming to reality.
Initially rumoured as the PS4 Neo, the Sony PS4 Pro an all-new hardware that delivers not just higher resolution but HDR (high dynamic range) and smoother frame rates than the previous PlayStation model. In addition to 4K games, users can utilise the new graphics support on the PS4 Pro to watch high-quality movies, TV shows and videos. Content providers like Netflix and YouTube are in development to provide their native apps on the new console with 4K resolution catalogue.

“Games that already look extraordinary on PS4 will look richer and more detailed, thanks to the more powerful GPU and faster CPU at the heart of PS4 Pro,” said Andrew House, president and global CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment, without revealing any hardware specifications of the new PS4 model.
The new PlayStation model comes equipped with a 1TB HDD. On the connectivity front, it provides faster Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) as well as a USB 3.1 port, HDMI out and Ethernet.
Slimmer model also in the lineup
Apart from the PS4 Pro, Sony announced its slimmer and lighter PS4. This console comes as an upgrade version of the existing PS4.
The slimmer PS4 model is touted to have 30 percent less volume and 16 percent less weight than the current console. Also, there are some hardware tweaks to provide 28 percent less power consumption.
The Sony PS4 Pro will go on sale in the US starting November 10 with a price tag of $399 (approximately Rs. 27,000), while the slimmer PS4 will be debuted in the market from September 15 for $299 (approx. Rs. 20,000). Both the consoles will be compatible with the advanced VR technology of PlayStation VR.
